She began her career as a model in 2009 when she took part in the Miss Minnesota Teen competition. She didn’t win the pageant but placed third. However, she took part in the competition again the following year and was able to win it.
After that, she represented Minnesota at the Miss Teen USA competition that took place in the Bahamas. Kalil did not win the competition but did not lose heart.
She came back in 2013 and took part in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant and successfully won it. After that, she gain represented her state at the Miss USA 2014 pageant.
She did not win the title there and the following year she gave her title to her successor Jessica Scheu and eventually gave up taking part in any more pageants. She found her breakthrough in modeling when she took part in the sports-illustrated swim search.
